What should I wear or bring?
Wear a bathing suit, or a costume if you want to have fun with it (we've had a shark!). Water shoes or old sneakers will protect your feet from the cold sand and rocks. Bring a towel, a full change of warm, dry clothes (don't forget socks and a hat), and a bag for your wet things. A warm coat or robe to throw on after you come out of the water helps a lot too. Leave jewelry and phones with a friend on the beach.
Where can I change?
Lots of plungers just throw sweats on over their wet suit, and others change in their cars.
Can kids plunge? Is there a waiver?
Minors are welcome as long as they plunge with a parent or guardian. There's no waiver. The plunge takes place on a public beach, so everyone plunges at their own risk and is responsible for their own safety.
What if the weather is bad?
If snow mounds or unsafe conditions keep us from getting to the beach, we have to postpone the plunge. We usually know a bit ahead of time, and the new date depends on conditions, so it's often TBD. Watch our Facebook page and this website for updates.
Where do I park?
Parking is at St. Elizabeth's Church, 1 Lowell St. See our Directions page for details.
Can friends and family come watch?
Absolutely! Anyone can come cheer on the plungers.
What happens on plunge day?
We gather at Hookset, have a small ceremony, then walk down to the beach together. Everyone waits there until Ray or Ed, our spokesman, lets you know it's go time!
Can I buy merch on the day?
Yes, we sell tees and towels on plunge day.
